From State Senator Daniel Squadron:

URGENT for Mr. Squadron about Shuang Wen PS 184M and District 75

Thank you for contacting our office about P.S. 184M, the Shuang Wen Academy. Senator Squadron immediately contacted the Department of Education for information about the citing of District 75. DOE staff relayed the following:

“We have made no decisions about the placement of a D75 program in the building. We have been looking at space across the district and the needs of students in the district. We are bringing potential scenarios for feedback to the CEC this week and will present a proposal in December or January.”

Our office will be closely monitoring this important issue, and will be in touch as discussions progress. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions.

Sincerely,

Mary Cooley
District Office Director
State Senator Daniel Squadron

Reponse - District 1 City Council-Elect Margaret Chin

sws_support : 12/01/2009 8:18 am : Public Responses

From Councilmember-Elect Margaret Chin

Thank you for reaching out to us and thank you for your support. First of all, I can assure you that the Councilmember-elect has no ‘plan’ regarding PS184. In fact, her office has only recently been made aware of the proposed changes to the school, and we are in the process of figuring out exactly what the Department of Education is planning. Margaret is in fact not yet in office until January 1st, but will certainly be working to ensure that quality schools like PS184 can continue to thrive. I can tell you that Margaret supported the Shuang Wen parents last year on the Pre K issue, and feels strongly about the school.

Please feel free to forward any information about PS184 to us and keep us posted on any developments. We are reaching out to the DoE as well as the local Community Education Council to get full details of the plans right now.

Thank you for your concern and best,

~ Jake
